From Tibetan singing bowls to Aboriginal Digideridoos, the sound has been used for its therapeutic effects for thousands of years. The ancient Greeks utilized sound to aid digestion, treat mental disturbance, and induce sleep. At the end of the 19th century, researchers began focusing on proving the correlation between sound and healing. Our bodies are generally 60% water, and sound effects water directly. Dr. Masuru Emoto studied the impact of music on water. He found a direct interaction between rock and classical music when freezing the water. The frozen water in which classical music was played displayed soft, beautiful images in the water. When the same water was thawed and then frozen again, while heavy rock was played, the water displayed sharp, jagged edges. Researches proved that music could lower blood pressure, decrease pulse rate, and assist the parasympathetic nervous system responsible for digestion and other metabolic processes.
Many people now are laying on the floor in large areas, outdoors by the beach, or in the comfort of their homes on Zoom, engaging in these incredibly meditative evenings of sound and healing. Essentially, s sound bath is a mediation class that aims to guide you into a deep meditative state while you are enveloped in ambient sound played by your “Sound Therapist”.
Your therapist will utilize many different instruments to deepen your relaxation. Many use crystal bowls, gongs, and chimes to create an ocean of sounds. By using particular combinations of rhythms and frequencies, it is possible to shift our normal beta state(alert, concentrating, reacting) to an alpha (creative, relaxed) and even theta(meditative state) and delta(deep sleep, where restoring and healing can occur).
So if you are experiencing stress, sleep issues, chronic headaches, or just would love to deepen your meditation practice, reach out. I would be happy to meet you on your mat, your bed, or in your office to help you relax and create an incredible experience for you.
